Interactive Lab — From Policy Commitments to Implementation: Reform Sequencing, State Capability, and Accountability

Participants jointly solve a reform-sequencing challenge using a simulated country scenario built on real data from a composite African economy. The session goes beyond sequencing to focus on how reforms are actually delivered — project preparation units, delivery units, regulatory institutions, and inter-ministerial coordination — identifying institutional bottlenecks and designing practical solutions to strengthen execution. Participants then define measurable indicators and accountability mechanisms to track progress. Hosted by the International Institute for Sustainable Transition in Africa.

Objective: translate policy commitments into a phased, coherent, realistic reform roadmap; explore implementation trade-offs; strengthen decision-making on sequencing, coordination, and accountability; and facilitate exchange among decision-makers, researchers, practitioners, and development partners. Expected outcomes: a collectively developed reform roadmap from evidence to implementation; lessons on the factors behind successful sequencing; a replicable methodology; and a facilitator's guide for national and regional workshops.
